Old School

Sleeps 6

| 4 Bedrooms

Dogs Welcome (1 Only)

This large now family home has been kept open plan, just as the school once was. The lower levels of accommodation are all oak floored & on one smooth level, including two ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms, making the space versatile for any guests with restricted mobility.

Originally the school room stretched high up into the rafters, which would have given it considerable acoustics for singing hymns and shouting at pupils!

Yet it would have been freezing cold, as there was originally one old cast iron stove in the fireplace for the entire building. In the 1960’s a second floor was added.

The interiors are painted Calamine by Farrow & Ball, a deeply nostalgic colour, calming & warm in the sunshine. The original latticed windows have been preserved & for the windows that did not have any covering replicas were handmade to match. The downstairs windows & patio doors all have botanical/plantation shutters & roman blinds.

Under floor heating throughout. The fireplace has a new large wood burning stove in position now. The TV is disguised as a mirror above the fireplace! A large modular sofa surrounds the fireplace & coffee table.

Outside is a circular, glass topped rattan table with six armchairs. Inside is an antique farmhouse table & eight farmhouse carver chairs in the dining area.

A fire pit on the terrace too. With cooking utensils in a plastic box in the larder, should you wish to cook on the log brazier.

The Old School has two bedroom suites upstairs, one has king-size bed, and a roll top bath in the bedroom, the ensuite bathroom has a shower, wc & basin. It is wall papered in William Morris Wallpaper, with coordinating bed linen. With an oak wooden floor throughout. A vintage dressing table & fitted closet. Twin aspect room with child safety windows on the lower window. The second bedroom has an antique Victorian cast iron bed & an ensuite shower room, with basin & wc. This room is carpeted, as is the hall, stairs and landing. A desk is on the landing area & large full length mirror by the stair case.

The other two bedrooms are on the ground floor. They are accessible by wheelchair from the terrace, with no steps. They have oak flooring, keeping the surfaces streamlined. The kingsize room has a twin aspect with roman blinds and shutters on the patio doors. The kingsize bed is an antique French bed, ornate and carved. With wardrobe and en suite shower room, with basin & wc.

The second downstairs bedroom is a single room, decorated in Jane Churchill Beatrix Potter wallpaper. Botanical shutters cover the patio doors onto the terrace. The bedlinen is predominantly Yves Delorme with a high cotton thread count, all freshly laundered and ironed in house.

All of the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms with heated towel rails, and oak flooring. The showers are thermostatically controlled with digital displays.

They have under floor heating throughout. There is a roll top bath in the master bedroom, and child’s bath in the downstairs cloakroom. Coordinating towels and bath linen throughout. Bathrobes in each bathroom.

The kitchen is open plan at The Old School. Handmade and painted in Farrow & Ball Manor House Grey. Which coordinates with the dusky pink hues.

The linens and accessories are all coordinating, and are stored in the kitchen & in the large welsh dresser in the dining area. The cooking area is well equipped and include a Kenwood chef, nutribullet, sonos sound speaker and various other cooking accessories.

The electric stove is a rangemaster. There is an integral fridge & freezer under the work surface and a slim line dishwasher. The larder is original and has a low entrance door to it, hours many additional items and a microwave oven. The washing machine & tumble drier is in the boiler room in the hallway.

The gardens at The Old School lie behind and wrap round the side and to the front of the home. The original entrance to the village school is set behind large antique cast iron gates with a narrow pedestrian pathway leading to the school house. The house is set up high from the lane & the terrace & rear garden is approached via a second gate.

The terrace area is large allowing for relaxed outside eating. With a few large pots containing plants. The garden pathway winds gradually up to a rear gateway, which leads onto a large shared timber frame garage and parking for two cars, within private drive way. The lock box is on the timber frame of the porch, facing inward towards the front door.

The Old School is located centrally in the middle of the village of Compton Pauncefoot. It is a really pretty & quiet village, the School looks down towards the church. The village sits in open countryside and is several miles from shops and pubs, beautiful local pubs are hiking distance and dog friendly.

Teals farm shop is nearby and stocks amazing locally sourced produce and has a delightful coffee lounge and cafe. Bridle ways and footpaths are abundant & the open farmland is stunning.

School House has fibre optic BT broadband, the smart TV and wifi signals are good.

Is at the rear of the house. A shared open garage and driveway with parking for two cars. The adjacent property is perfect for shared family/friends holidays.

The Old School is also home to a collection of one-of-a-kind antiques, including furniture, ceramics & silverware.

Please enjoy them, some are purely for display use & would be hard to replace if broken. They are up high away from dogs & children! Breakages/damage would have to be paid for by the guests.

The Compton Estate is eco-friendly. We produce our own spring filtered water, solar panels provide electricity & we recycle as much as we can. We collect the recycling & place it outside for collection on Thursdays, unless it is a bank holiday week, when the collection alters. We ask that food packaging is rinsed out before being placed in the containers, so that pests are not too attracted to the collection area on the lane outside.

Please place food in the brown lined container. Vegetable peelings can be placed in the bucket for composting. Our actual rubbish bins are only collected for land fill once a month, so recycling is essential.

We use eco cleaning products for our excess water drainage. Recycled loo rolls and kitchen roll. Put coffee grounds from the cafetière into the flower beds, the plants love it & the gardener digs it into the soil, or in the compost bin. We use Grind compostable coffee pods. Do jot down your eco recommendations in the house book, we love to adopt guest ideas!

Well behaved dogs are welcome at The Old School, generally one larger dog or two smaller dogs. Please don’t leave them alone in the house or garden. Do clean up after them in the garden. We also ask that you keep them on the hard floor areas, as muddy feet are best cleaned up from non carpeted areas.

The Miele pet hoover is in the understaffs cupboard as is the mop for any accidents! Livestock grazes in the areas with public footpaths, please keep dogs on a lead if you see animals grazing.
