FAQ

please read our FAQs for more information below.

If you think you may arrive early, or would like to check out slightly later than the times on the property information, do please ask. This is best done by email.

Sometimes if guests ask to leave later & the incoming guests ask to arrive earlier, it can compromise the housekeeper.

Yes! We love dogs at Compton, but out of respect for guests that suffer allergies we ask that dogs be kept off the furniture, and carpeted bedrooms/sitting rooms. We have permanent stair gates fitted to help with this! Please pick up after your dog, and finally please do not leave them unattended in the house. Many footpaths cross farmland which have livestock in them, please keep dogs on a lead around livestock.

We do not provide baby equipment. Predominantly because of safety & hygiene. There are baby/toddler equipment hire services locally, we are happy to work with these businesses & coordinate the delivery & collection of your deliveries, that you have arranged/selected.

We cannot guarantee that our local Farm shop will have the items you may require, but we will do our best to replace any items that you do not want. Please email us with any requests.

Please read through the journal/Blog and News sections. We do leave some brochures from local attractions & services in the houses. Again do email us with any questions, we will do our best to assist. Please bear in mind that some destinations do not allow dogs. We recommend doggy day care in the News/Local Guide here on our website.

All of the houses are really well equipped for cooking at home. With a good choice of utensils, electrical appliances etc. Recently a guest emailed to say they were going to Lyme Bay to buy Mussels to cook for a special supper, was there a large Mussel pan? We sourced one in time for their arrival! Just send a message if it is a special request, happy to help.

Compton Castle is a private home and as such is not open to the Public. The gardens are beautiful, but the water is really deep around the lake & the edges are slippery. Many garden paths are original & uneven.

Sometimes adult guests do ask to visit, we cannot accept dogs, as the estate has its own free roaming dogs. Sometimes if the head gardener is free he can walk guests around. Please do ask. It is too hazardous for children with the vast amount of open water. The footpath does go around the perimeter of the Grotto & the views of the parkland are stunning from there.

We leave bathroom paper in each W/C. There is Ecover liquid hand soap too. All the kitchen items have to sealed & therefore protected for your use. The tea, coffee & sugar is all individually sealed. Salt & pepper sachets are also in a jar & sealed. We do not leave open jars, or open food items, please take everything open with you.
