We have made it March, and been rewarded with glorious bulbs, scents and longer days. The blue skies have been energising, so much so, that we have embarked on the Spring-cleaning agenda here in the cottages. Windows wide open and fresh air drifting through, refreshing the pretty rooms.
The month of February has been sunnier and dryer than expected here in South Somerset, the ground is compacted with freezing temperatures, and the lanes seem permanently white with frost. As a result, the roses in the cutting house are busy spouting new shoots and the crocus and snowdrops are amazing.
January has continued to be freezing cold and relatively dry in the Southwest, the birdsong gets louder each morning, and the sunrise is still after breakfast time for us- which makes the start of the day so dark and slow to really get going. I have resorted to lighting a scented tealight while I stir the porridge in the dark mornings!
Just as it was in November, winter arrived fearlessly & frankly, we have not looked back since then! The rainfall has been considerable, and the natural waterways & lakes are all full up to the brim. The water butts around the glasshouses & outbuildings are all full too.
Welcome to the inaugural Diary Post! My contributions are seasonally based & all relative to staying here on The Compton Castle Estate on the Somerset & Dorset Borders.
